Reading Resources

There are some excellent online collections of material that provide good accounts of the various technical terms used in educational research.

At the University of Huddersfield, there is a fine and comprehensive collection of resources for, from what I can tell, all you'd ever want to know about qualitative research but were afraid to ask.

There is a very large and comprehensive collection of resources at the ESRC Research Methods site. This is a site that is very much designed to support researchers but may be worth a browse.

When reading quantitative studies there is a good deal more technical stuff to get your head around. There is a good overview account of quantitative approaches to social science research here. There is a good account by Ulrike Hohmann at the University of Plymouth that is designed for would-be researchers but has much of the technical information you may need to understand if you get into the workings of a particular statistical study.
